Doug Millington : trombone
Doug Millington has been playing trombone ever since his grade 7 teacher told him there were no more trumpets. He holds a Masters degree from the University of North Texas (and that's about all it's good for... holding) and has performed with orchestras, brass quintets, big bands and rock/blues bands in just about every province of our fair land. When not performing with the Groove Company Doug divides his time between substitute teaching and cage fighting.
Peter Bevan-Baker : trumpet and flugelhorn
Peter was born in Scotland and still carries some of his ancestral baggage with him (a fondness for things deep fried in fat, fiddle music and wool socks). He spends much of his time poking around other people's premolars, but also dabbles in politics, theatre, writing and music. Peter and his family moved to PEI seven years ago, and only now, with the emergence of Groove Company, does Peter feel like it is truly his home. In his spare time Peter enjoys raising his four children. Groove on.
Jon MacInnis : tenor sax
I began playing reed instruments right around the same time that Macaulay Culkin starred in the original Home Alone movie. Like Macaulay, I’ve had to overcome a lot to become a sax machine. Ok, maybe not a lot, but my mom did limit my diet to Oreo cookies, raw carrots and mini-pizzas, and I did have to endure a year playing the black stick of death commonly known as the clarinet. Despite this harsh adversity, I like to think becoming a sax player was meant to be for me. It was a neighborhood of musical influences - music was all around my block. My backyard neighbor was my high school band teacher who inspired me to love all kinds of music and instruments. My neighbor across the street loaned me her saxophone to practice on before auditions in junior high, and my next door neighbor was our own percussion animal Alan Dowling (sorry about monopolizing your driveway and basketball net for all those years Al). My Grandfather was also a big musical influence in my life - he sang and played numerous stringed instruments by ear. After high school I went to UPEI and studied saxophone for 4 years and then attended Memorial University for 2 years earning a Masters in Performance on the saxophone. Since university I’ve been teaching instrumental music at Montague Intermediate School.
Deryl Gallant : bass
Deryl Gallant has been involved in the PEI music scene for almost 15 years – from garage band beginnings to a sought after performing, touring, recording, and instructing bassist. Most notably he was a member of the Jive Kings, The Dennis Lee Project, Charlottetown Festival productions of “Something Wonderful”, “Canada Rocks”, “Anne of Green Gables - The Musical ™”, and 7 straight years as the bassist for the ever popular Late Night at the Mack. A newer version of Deryl “Deryl 2.0” was released in 2003 when he found himself a full time career in the world of IT; however, Deryl remains as active as possible in the PEI music scene...because...is there really anything better than playing live music?
Alan White : drums
Alan hails from "Montague the Beautiful" in Kings County. He is a graduate of Humber College and has spent time on the cruise ship circuit for several years before returning home to PEI. Alan plays in several groups so keep your eye open for him at shows across the Island.
Perry Williams : guitar and vocal
Perry began playing guitar in Grade 5 in Beach Point. His first “rock gigs” were held on the front doorstep of his parents house with his Sears guitar and amp. Since then he has played with “Copperfield” a dance band in the late 70’- early 80’s, The UPEI Jazz Ensemble, the multiple ECMA-award winning Jive Kings (with Deryl and Jon), The Hired Horn Band, The Charlottetown Festival Orchestra, The Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble, The Old Abbie Dixieland Band, The Easter Seals House Band, award-winning theatre groups Here on the Island and Hedgerow, and most recently the GROOVE COMPANY. Perry keeps busy with his day job producing creative digital media with his production company, Virtual Studios Inc. He holds a B.Music from UPEI and a M.Music from the University of Western Ontario.
